Reiter Trails

General Location
Reiter Trails, also known as Reiter Pit, is located about 2 miles east of the town of Gold Bar, along highway 2.

Getting There
Heading east on highway 2, turn left on Reiter Road about a mile outside of Gold Bar. Reiter Road has its own turn lane on highway 2 so it is pretty easy to find. Continue up Reiter Road untill you reach a sharp left turn. At that same turn the road continues on straight into a forest. Follow this road through the forest until you reach the gravel parking area on the left. Trails spread out from this point. Explore the area.

Trails

Here is an overall map of the area.  This is a rough version but will be continually be revised to improve accuracy.

Lake Isabel
From the gravel parking lot, continue another 500 feet down the road and turn left on the gravel road. This road is heavily ridden with potholes. Continue on the road until you reach a Y. Taking the road to the right will take you to the smaller water crossing. Continueing straight will bring you to a much larger water crossing. Either route will lead you to the the Lake Isabel Trail.

K5
K5 is a small trail system located behind the gravel parking area. This is an extremely tight trail and not reccommended for full-size vehicles. The head of the trail is located at the western edge of the parking area.

Index Wall
This trail ends at a breathtaking view of the town of Index. About 1000′ in the air, the view is amazing. To get to the trail, follow the main paved road to the final gravel turn off. Follow the gravel road up and when it Y’s, take it straight into the forest. Index Wall starts out easy with just some water holes to cross, but once you get further in, you will have to turn left into the trees and snake your way through. This tree section is the most difficult part of the trail. Once you make it through the trees, follow the road untill you reach a rock garden and a steel barracade. You will have to park here and hike the remaining 500 feet or so. You will know it when you reach the lookout.

Lookout
Though not really a trail, this is a good landmark in the midst of Reiter. This spot is at the top of what is called the “sand hills” along the power lines. To get here, follow the main paved road and turn left onto the gravel road just as you pass the stream on the left. Follow the snaking trails up along the power lines. There are many paths you can take but all eventually lead to the same point.
